How the electrician works
They make the installation safe first, isolating the faulty circuit so the rest of the house can stay on where possible. If a full fix needs parts that aren’t on the van, the circuit is left safe and switched off, and you’re told what it needs.

The power has gone off. Is it us or the network?
Look at your neighbours' lights and street lights. If they are off too, it is a power cut, and you should call 105, the national power cut number. If only your home is dark, check the consumer unit for a switch that has dropped. If it won't stay up, call us.
My electrics keep tripping. What should I do?
Unplug everything on that circuit and reset the switch. Plug things back in one at a time; if the switch drops when one goes in, that appliance is the likely fault. If it trips with nothing plugged in, the fault is in the wiring and needs an electrician.
How much does an emergency electrician cost?
There is no call-out fee. It is £89 for the first hour, then £45 for each additional half hour, plus parts, day or night.
There's a burning smell from a socket. What now?
Switch off at the consumer unit if you can do so safely, don't touch the socket, and keep people away. If you see smoke or flames, get everyone out and call 999. Otherwise call us.
