What we do on a claim

Most insurance work starts as an emergency. A pipe bursts, a roof lets in a storm, a door is forced. The first visit is the same one any customer gets from our emergency line: we stop the water, board the opening, secure the door, at any hour, with the price confirmed before dispatch. The difference for a claim is what we do while we are there.

We photograph the cause and the damage before we touch anything, and again after the make-safe. We note what we found, in plain language: where the water came from, what had failed, how the entry was forced. That record goes to you, or to your adjuster or claims handler, the next working day, in a format they can use without ringing us for clarification.

Escape of water

The most common domestic claim, and the one where speed matters most. We isolate and repair the source, identify what has been affected, and where drying is needed we say so and can arrange it. Our report describes the cause, which is what determines cover, and separates the repair to the pipe from the reinstatement of what it damaged.

Storm and roof damage

We make the roof watertight as soon as conditions allow, document the damage from the roof and from inside, and distinguish storm damage from wear, honestly, because adjusters will. Our emergency roof leak page covers the first visit.

Burglary and malicious damage

Doors, frames, locks and glass are made safe the same night, with the crime reference recorded on our report. Locks are changed where keys were taken. We photograph the point of entry before repair, which the police and the insurer both ask for. Our burglary repair and make-safe page has the detail.

Reinstatement

Once the claim is agreed, we quote the permanent repair across whichever trades it needs, on one quote, and carry it out as one job. For adjusters and claims handlers we can work on an approved-contractor basis with agreed rates, and we invoice the insurer directly where that is the arrangement. Our rates are on the pricing page.

The process

From incident to reinstatement

01Will my insurer accept your report?

Our reports describe cause, damage and work done with dated photographs, which is what adjusters ask for. We are happy to speak to a claims handler directly, and we can provide additional detail if requested.

02Do I have to pay for the make-safe before the claim is agreed?

The emergency callout is payable on completion, as with any customer, and is almost always recoverable under the policy. Where we have an approved-contractor arrangement with your insurer, we invoice them directly.

03Can you do the repair as well as the emergency visit?

Yes, and it is usually simpler for everyone. We quote the reinstatement across whichever trades are needed and carry it out as one job once the claim is approved.
