How our pricing works

Most people ringing a tradesperson at night are worried about two things: whether anyone will come, and what it will cost when they do. This page deals with the second.

Our standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. Work booked within those hours is charged at the standard callout and hourly rate below.

Evenings, weekends and bank holidays carry a higher rate. We do not claim that a plumber at 2am costs the same as a plumber at 2pm, because it does not, and a company that claims otherwise is recovering the difference somewhere less visible. What we commit to instead is this: we tell you the price before an engineer is dispatched. The callout figure is confirmed on the phone, any additional time is charged at the rate you were told, and parts are quoted before they are fitted. Nothing is added on arrival.

For planned work, such as a new consumer unit, a set of misted units, a lock upgrade or a roof repair, we visit or take details, and send a written quote free of charge and with no obligation. The quote is the price unless something genuinely unforeseen appears, in which case we stop and talk to you before continuing.

01Is the price you give on the phone the price I pay?

For the callout, yes. It covers travel and the first hour on site. If the job needs more time, it is charged at the hourly rate you were told; if it needs parts, they are quoted before they are fitted. Nothing is added that you have not agreed to.

02What happens if the engineer cannot fix it on the first visit?

You pay the callout, which covers the diagnosis and making safe. We then quote the follow-on work in writing, with no obligation. If it needs a part we have to order, we book a return visit and there is no second callout fee for completing the same job.

03Do you charge for a quote on planned work?

No. Quotes for planned work are free and carry no obligation. Where we need to visit to measure or inspect, that visit is also free unless it involves diagnostic work, in which case we say so first.

04Why are out-of-hours rates higher?

Because it costs more to have qualified engineers available at 3am on a Sunday, and we would rather state that than hide it in the hourly rate. We will also tell you on the phone if we think the job can safely wait until standard hours.

05How do I pay?

Card, bank transfer or, for account customers, monthly invoice. Payment is due on completion for one-off work. Landlords, agents and commercial clients can set up an account through the commercial pages.
