While you wait

Six things that limit the damage before the engineer arrives.

  1. 01Close the stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink or by the front door, then open the cold kitchen tap
  2. 02If water is anywhere near sockets, lights or the consumer unit, switch that circuit off
  3. 03Turn the boiler off if the leak is close to it or pressure has dropped to zero
  4. 04Put a bucket or towels under the drip and move furniture and rugs out of the way
  5. 05Photograph the damage for your insurer before anything is cleaned up
  6. 06Unlock side gates and clear parking so the engineer can get to the van and back quickly
Emergency line: Call 07343 065023Cannot find the stopcock? Ring anyway and we will talk you to it.

Water you cannot stop, a toilet you cannot use, no water at all, or no heating in a home with a baby or someone elderly. If it cannot wait until morning without damage or real discomfort, call 07343 065023 and we send the nearest available plumber. Typical response across Manchester, Trafford, Stockport and Salford is within 60 minutes, and we confirm a realistic arrival time on the call rather than a hopeful one.

The engineer arrives with the parts to make the situation safe on the first visit: isolating the leak, freeing the blockage, restoring supply or capping off a damaged section. Where a permanent repair needs daylight or a manufacturer part, we make it safe tonight, price the follow-up in writing and return at the standard daytime rate. Out-of-hours rates are higher than daytime rates. The figures are on our pricing page and you hear them before anyone is dispatched.

For the ten minutes before we arrive, our guide to what to do when a pipe bursts shows where to find the stopcock and how to protect the floor below. If the emergency is a boiler that has stopped, why your boiler has no hot water covers the resets worth trying first. Once the immediate problem is handled, our leaks and burst pipes team deals with the permanent fix, and the plumbing hub lists everything else we do.

Prime, step 1234 of 4

Tell me where the water is. Thirty seconds is usually enough.

You hear the number and a realistic time before anyone leaves.

Leak isolated, supply back on, blockage cleared.

If daylight makes it a better repair, we price it and come back.

The process

What happens when you call

  1. Step 1

    You describe the problem

Where the water is coming from, whether you have found the stopcock, and the postcode. Thirty seconds is usually enough.

  2. Step 2

We confirm the price and the time

Callout fee, rate and a realistic arrival time, stated on the phone. Nothing is dispatched until you agree.

  3. Step 3

The plumber arrives and makes it safe

Leak isolated, supply restored or blockage cleared. Most jobs are fully repaired on the first visit.

  4. Step 4

    Anything that can wait, waits

If the permanent fix is better done in daylight, we price it in writing and return at the daytime rate.

01Is the line really answered at night, or is it a call centre?

It is answered by our own dispatch team, who know the engineers and the area. They can tell you what to do in the meantime and give you a real arrival time, not a script.

02How quickly will someone arrive?

Typically within sixty minutes in our twelve priority areas. Elsewhere across Greater Manchester and north Cheshire we tell you a realistic time on the phone. If we cannot meet a time we will say so, not promise and miss it.

03Does an out-of-hours callout cost more?

Yes. Evenings, weekends and bank holidays carry a higher rate than standard hours, and the pricing page says so plainly. What does not change is that you are told the figure before anyone is dispatched.

04What if it turns out not to be an emergency?

We will tell you on the phone if we think it can wait, and what the price difference is. The decision is yours. If you would still like someone tonight, we come.

05How quickly can an emergency plumber get to me?

Across Manchester, Trafford, Stockport and Salford the typical arrival is within 60 minutes of the call. We give you a realistic time based on where the nearest available engineer is, not an optimistic one, and the engineer rings when they are on their way. For Wilmslow and the Cheshire towns it can take longer at night, and we say so on the phone rather than let you find out.

06Do you charge more at night and at weekends?

Yes. Out-of-hours callouts are charged at a higher rate than daytime visits. The daytime rate, the out-of-hours rate, the callout fee and what it includes are on our pricing page, and you hear the figures for your job before an engineer is dispatched. If a full repair can safely wait until morning, we tell you, because the daytime rate is lower and it is your money.

07Should I turn the water off before you arrive?

If water is escaping and you can reach the stopcock safely, yes. It is usually under the kitchen sink, in a downstairs toilet or by the front door, and turns clockwise to close. Then open the cold kitchen tap to drain the pressure. If water is near electrics, switch the circuit off at the consumer unit first. Our guide to what to do when a pipe bursts walks through it.

08Will you fix it tonight or just make it safe?

Most emergency jobs are repaired on the first visit: the van carries fittings, pipe, valves, cistern parts and common cartridges. Where a repair needs a manufacturer boiler part, daylight to trace a leak, or floorboards up in an occupied house, we make it safe tonight, price the follow-up in writing and return at the daytime rate. You will not pay a night rate for work that can wait.

09Should I call my insurer before or after you?

Stop the water and call us first; insurers expect you to limit the damage. Take photographs of the leak, the damaged area and any affected belongings before anything is moved, and keep our invoice, which itemises the fault and the repair. Most escape-of-water claims cover the resulting damage rather than the plumbing repair itself, so check your policy wording or ask us and we will explain what we normally see.
