A broken window is a security problem before it is a glazing problem. Cold, rain and anyone walking past can get in, and glass on the floor is a hazard for children and pets. Call 07343 065023 and a glazier is on the way within 60 minutes across Manchester, Trafford, Stockport and Salford, with a realistic arrival time confirmed on the call.

The glazier clears the broken glass, removes what is left in the frame and, where a stock size or a pane cut on the van will do, reglazes there and then. Single glazing in a Chorlton sash or a timber back door is usually replaced on the night. A sealed double glazed unit has to be manufactured to size, so we board the opening securely, measure, and return to fit the unit, usually within the week. Boarding is fitted timber, screwed to the frame, not a sheet taped over the hole. Our emergency boarding up page covers larger openings and shopfronts.

Out-of-hours rates are higher than daytime rates. The figures are on our pricing page and you hear them before anyone is dispatched. If the window was broken in a burglary, what to do after a break-in explains the order to do things in, and a broken window at night covers the first ten minutes. Planned glazing work, including double glazing repair, is on the glazing hub.

01Is the line really answered at night, or is it a call centre?

It is answered by our own dispatch team, who know the engineers and the area. They can tell you what to do in the meantime and give you a real arrival time, not a script.

02How quickly will someone arrive?

Typically within sixty minutes in our twelve priority areas. Elsewhere across Greater Manchester and north Cheshire we tell you a realistic time on the phone. If we cannot meet a time we will say so, not promise and miss it.

03Does an out-of-hours callout cost more?

Yes. Evenings, weekends and bank holidays carry a higher rate than standard hours, and the pricing page says so plainly. What does not change is that you are told the figure before anyone is dispatched.

04What if it turns out not to be an emergency?

We will tell you on the phone if we think it can wait, and what the price difference is. The decision is yours. If you would still like someone tonight, we come.

05Can you replace the glass tonight, or only board it?

Single glazing in a timber sash, a back door or an internal door is usually replaced on the night, cut to size on the van. A sealed double glazed unit has to be manufactured to your exact size, so we clear the glass, board the opening securely and return to fit the new unit, typically within the week. Some common uPVC casement sizes are carried as stock and can go in straight away. We tell you which applies on the phone.

06Do you charge more at night?

Yes. Out-of-hours callouts are charged at a higher rate than daytime visits, and the figures are on our pricing page. You hear the callout fee, the rate and a realistic arrival time before a glazier is dispatched. If the opening can be made safe by you for the night, for instance a small internal pane, we will say so and book a daytime visit at the lower rate instead.

07What should I do while I wait?

Keep children and pets out of the room, and do not pull glass out of the frame; the pieces still held by the putty or gasket are the ones that cut. If you must move glass, wear shoes and thick gloves. Photograph the damage before anything is cleared. If it was a break-in, call the police for a crime reference before we arrive. Our guide to a broken window at night covers the rest.

08Do you help with the insurer after a break-in?

Our invoice describes the damage, the make-safe work and the reglazing separately, with photographs, which is what most insurers and loss adjusters ask for. Get a crime reference number from the police, keep the photographs you took before we started, and do not throw the broken frame or glass away until the insurer says so. What to do after a break-in sets out the order, and our locksmith attends the same call if a door or lock was forced.

09Can you glaze uPVC and aluminium windows, or only timber?

All three. uPVC and aluminium units are held by beads and gaskets that come out and go back without damage to the frame, and we carry the common gasket profiles. Timber windows are re-puttied or re-beaded, and original sashes in the terraces of Chorlton and Levenshulme are handled with the care they need. Where a frame has been damaged along with the glass, we make it safe and quote the frame repair or replacement in writing.
