Heaton Moor's leafy streets are a mix of 1930s semis and earlier Edwardian terraces, many of them within the area's conservation zones around Heaton Moor Road and the park. It's similar housing stock to neighbouring Cheadle and Didsbury in a lot of ways — bathrooms added and re-fitted over decades, boilers upgraded without always resizing for the extra demand — but with slightly older bones in places, particularly the Edwardian terraces, where original pipe runs are more likely to still be in place behind kitchen units.

We're about 20 minutes from Heaton Moor and cover the SK4 postcode. Daniel Ashworth and Liam Brennan both take regular call-outs here. For hot water or boiler issues, see boiler and hot water; for the rest, the plumbing hub. Call 07343 065023 for anything urgent.

The roads either side of Heaton Moor Road and towards Heaton Chapel show the two building eras side by side — Edwardian terraces with deeper, narrower plots and 1930s semis with more generous gardens, both regularly extended into their lofts for an extra bedroom and bathroom. In the older terraces specifically, we often find the original stopcock in an awkward spot under the front step or in an unheated cellar, prone to freezing in a hard winter. If a blockage rather than a supply issue is the problem, blocked drains covers what we do there.
